Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPsolocolor
Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes & hashtags chosen by Instagram’s Community Team. For a chance to be featured on the Instagram blog, follow @instagram and look for a photo announcing the weekend’s project every Friday.
This weekend’s tag was #WHPsolocolor, which asked participants to create photographs organized around a single color. Every Monday we feature some of our favorite submissions from the project, but be sure to check out the rest here.
What shall I fear? Should I fear the loss of my health? The loss of my wealth? The loss of my home? Should I fear dying? I do not fear the loss of these things because they were already taken from me. Twice I gazed into the abyss and was certain that I was dying. Lying in intensive care after a…

“I Am Who They Were” Necklace by Artist Ashley Gilreath 2011. Read the history behind this amazing piece and see more photos at Ashley Gilreath here. Ms. Gilreath created this necklace by casting dollhouse frames in silver and bronze and printing family portraits directly onto microscope glass.
How would I make a “poor man’s copy” of this? By using dollhouse frames/bezels and taken apart lockets (I could also make the frames by making a polymer clay mold). I would then print out photos on ink jet transparency paper (which I use all the time in my collages).
Sandy prints for the Red Cross?
Someone asked me on Flickr if I was selling prints of that hurricane watercolor I did. I told him that I wasn’t planning on it, but it gave me an idea.
Here’s the plan, I want to make postcard-size prints (4.25” x 5.5”) and sell them as a set of 3 for $20. All the proceeds would go to
the Red Crossa non-profit, yet to be determined, for Hurricane Relief. I know, that was like a month ago, but people are still recovering from it.
You spend $20, you get a set of 3 Sandy watercolor postcards, and you just donated $40 to the Red Cross!
Since I’m gonna have to pay for the printing costs out of my own pocket, I thought I’d try to gauge interest here first before going ahead with the plan. If I can get at least 40 people to back me up on this, then it’s a go.
Let me know if you’re interested to buy a set of Sandy postcards by replying, liking, or commenting to this post. How bout it, are you backing?
